In His Mercy, God has made them His own, and blessed them with the gift of His Name.

Twenty-four hours a day, I sing the Glorious Praises of God. Sexual desire and anger have left this body. ||1||

In plain words

Out of pure kindness, the One draws people close and hands them the gift of the Name — the living presence kept in mind.

Singing those praises all through the day, the heat of wanting and anger quietly leaves the body.

Kindness draws you in; the heat leaves on its own.
The deeper layer

Out of kindness the One draws people close and gives them the Name, and the hot, angry feelings leave on their own.

Kar kirpaa apnay prabh keenay — in mercy, the One made them His own. Naam kee daat — the gift of the Name. Daat means a gift given freely.

Aath pahar means all eight watches of the day. In old India the day and night were split into eight parts, so it means all the time.

Then kaam (strong wanting) and kroDh (anger) leave the body. They leave by themselves, drawn out by the singing. Nobody forces them out. Think of a fever that breaks as you rest and drink water, not by fighting it.

A Question to Sit With

What cools you down when you are worked up?
