No Curtain Between Us

ਆਲ ਜਾਲ ਨਹੀ ਕਛੂ ਜੰਜਾਰਾ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਨਹੀ ਭੋਰਾ ॥
aal jaal nahee kachhoo janjaaraa ahaN-buDh nahee bhoraa.
No worldly entanglements or snares can trap me, and no trace of egotistical pride remains.
ਊਚਨ ਊਚਾ ਬੀਚੁ ਨ ਖੀਚਾ ਹਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਮੋਰਾ ॥੨॥
oochan oochaa beech na kheechaa ha-o tayraa tooN moraa. ||2||
You are the highest of the high, and no curtain separates us; I am Yours, and You are mine. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

No knots, no tangles hold me, and not a speck of pride is left in me.

You are the highest of the high, and yet there is no curtain hanging between us — I am Yours, and You are mine.

When pride steps aside, there is no distance left to cross.
The deeper layer

aal jaal... ahaN-buDh nahee bhoraa — no ego-trace remains; beech na kheechaa — no curtain drawn between; ha-o tayraa too moraa — mutual belonging. When pride dissolves, the closeness has nothing left to cross.

A Question to Sit With

What gets in the way of feeling close to someone you love?
