His Sanctuary is All-powerful; He cannot be described; He is the Giver of peace, the ocean of mercy, supremely compassionate.
ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਰਾਖੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਉ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਤਾਤੀ ਬਾਲ ॥੧॥
kanth laa-ay raakhai apnay ka-o tis no lagai na taatee baal. ||1||
Holding him close in His embrace, the Lord protects and saves him, and then even the hot wind cannot touch him. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One who shelters is strong beyond describing — an ocean of kindness, endlessly gentle.

Held close in that embrace, a person is kept so safe that not even a hot, stinging wind can touch them.

The safest place is close, held in the One's embrace.
The deeper layer

saran samrath akath sukh-daata — the sanctuary all-powerful and past description, giver of peace, kirpaa sinDh, ocean of mercy. kanth laa-ay raakhai — held close to the heart; taatee baal na lagai — not even a hot wind lands, a picture of complete protection by nearness.

A Question to Sit With

Where or with whom do you feel so safe that nothing can bother you?
