Verse 4 of 4

Now Sleep Comes Sweet

mohan roop dikhaavai.
The Enticing Lord has revealed His form to me,
ab mohi need suhaavai.
and now, sleep seems sweet to me.
sabh mayree tikhaa bujhaanee.
My thirst is totally quenched,
ab mai sahj samaanee.
and now, I am absorbed in celestial bliss.
meethee pireh kahaanee.
How sweet is the story of my Husband Lord.
mohan laalan paa-i-o ree. rahaa-o doojaa. ||1||128||
I have found my Beloved, Enticing Lord. ||Second Pause||1||128||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One who enchants my heart has shown me who He is, and now sleep feels sweet.

My thirst is completely gone; I have settled into a deep, easy calm. How sweet the story of the One I love -- I have found my Beloved, the One who enchants my heart.

When the ache is answered, even rest becomes sweet.
The deeper layer

The rahaa-o doojaa (second refrain) that answers the first. The sighing, sleepless nights of the opening are now sweet rest; tikhaa bujhaanee -- the thirst quenched; sahj samaanee -- absorbed in natural ease (sahj). The longing that opened this shabad -- and closed this Ghar 13 Partaal set -- comes home. Closes the Partaal set at ||128||.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like when a long wait is finally, happily over?
