Do What the Guru Says

ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਸਾ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਹੁ ॥

Contemplating the Word of the Shabad, you shall come to the home of celestial bliss.

saachai naa-ay vadaa-ee paavhu. ||2||
Through the True Name, you shall obtain glorious greatness. ||2||

In plain words

Put the Guru's word into practice. Doing it is what carries you forward.

Turn the true Word over in your heart, and you arrive at a deep, easy calm, a kind of home inside yourself. Through the True Name, greatness comes to you.

Doing the good you are shown is what carries you home.
The deeper layer

Doing the good you are shown carries you forward.

Gur kahi-aa saa kaar kamaavahu — do the work the Guru tells you to do. Not just nodding, but actually doing it. Think of a coach showing you a better way to kick a ball. It only helps once you practice it.

Sabad cheeneh sahj ghar aavhu — thinking deeply on the Shabad, the Guru's Word, you come home to sahj. Sahj means natural ease, a calm place inside. Saachai naa-ay vadaa-ee paavhu — through the True Name, you receive real greatness.
