The Light of the Lord's Name permeates all; the Gurmukh knows the unknowable.

O Nanak, the Lord has become merciful to the meek; through loving adoration, he merges in the Lord's Name. ||8||1||4||

In plain words

The Light of the One's Naam shines inside absolutely everything. Turned toward the Guru, you come to sense the One no eyes can see.

Nanak says: the One is kind to the humble. With a heart full of love, you melt into the Naam and feel completely at home.

The same Light shines in everything, and it is especially tender toward the small.
The deeper layer

The same Light shines in everything, and it is kind to the humble.

Raam naam hai jot sabaa-ee: the Light of the Name shines in everything. Gurmukh aapay alakh lakha-ee-aa: the gurmukh comes to know the alakh, the One who cannot be seen.

Naanak deen da-i-aal bha-ay hai: the One is kind to the deen, the humble and the low. Grace flows toward them first. Think of rain, which always runs to the lowest ground. Then bhagat bhaa-ay har naam sama-ee-aa: through loving devotion, one melts into the Name. That is where the song comes to rest.

A Question to Sit With

Why do you think kindness so often flows toward those who feel small or left out?
