Friday — No Ritual Without Understanding

Friday: God is permeating and pervading everywhere.

He Himself created all, and appraises the value of all.

One who become Gurmukh, contemplates the Lord.

He practices truth and self-restraint.

Without genuine understanding, all fasts, religious rituals and daily worship services lead only to the love of duality. ||7||

In plain words

Friday. The One fills everywhere and knows the true worth of everything it made.

Here is the heart of it: fasts, ceremonies, daily rituals -- none of them mean much on their own. Without understanding behind them, they just leave you pulled in two directions.

What counts is turning toward the Guru, living truthfully, and keeping yourself steady. Do the practice with understanding, or it is only motions.

A ritual without understanding is just going through the motions.
The deeper layer

sukarvaar, Friday. varat naym... poojaa -- fasts, observances, and daily worship are gently critiqued: hollow bin boojhay (without understanding), leaving one in doojaa bhaa-o (duality). This is the same relocation as the Thittee's true-fast verses and the Baarah Maaha epilogue -- and it targets empty formalism in every tradition, never any one faith. The living alternative is sach sanjam -- truth and self-restraint.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever done something out of habit and forgotten what it was for?
