Verse 2 of 11

The One Written in Your Heart

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ॥
jaa kai mastak likhi-aa laykh.
One who has such pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon his forehead
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
taa kai man vasi-aa parabh ayk. ||1|| rahaa-o.
- the One God abides within his mind. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Some foreheads carry a blessing written on them.

In those minds, the One God comes to live.

When you are ready, the One settles into your heart as if it was always meant to be there.
The deeper layer

The rahau, the refrain of the hymn. mastak likhiaa laykh -- literally "the writing on the forehead," an image of destiny. It is reframed here away from grim fate toward grace and readiness: the One settling in the heart is not a reward earned but something given when you become open -- as if it had always been there, waiting to be recognized.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever learned something and felt like part of you already knew it?
