Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Like sunbeams folding back into the sun, like water poured into water — my little light joined the great Light and became whole.
Now I see the One, hear the One, speak of the One and only. The whole spreading world is the One's own doing; without it, I know nothing else.
The One is the maker and the enjoyer, the cause of it all. Nanak prays: only those who taste this sweetness for themselves know it.
Sooraj kiran... jal kaa jal — the classic merging images: rays into the sun, water into water. Jotee jot ralee: light merging in Light — union as oneness, not romance. Barahm deesai barahm sunee-ai: seeing and hearing the One everywhere. Aap kartaa aap bhugtaa: the One as both Maker and Enjoyer — Ik Onkar, oneness itself. And only those who har ras pee-aa, who taste it, know — knowing by experience.
What is something you can only understand by experiencing it yourself?
