Hold It at Arm's Length

Cursed is the body, cursed is the wealth, and cursed is this Maya; cursed, cursed is the clever intellect and understanding.

Restrain and hold back this Maya; overcome it, through the Word of the Guru's Teachings. ||1||

In plain words

It is amazing how easily the body, money, possessions, and even a clever mind can tie you in knots if you let them run the show.

So keep them at arm's length — you use them, they do not use you. The Guru's teaching helps you hold the reins.

Use the world's things — do not let them use you.
The deeper layer

Dharig tan Dharig Dhan Dharig ih maa-i-aa — shame on the body, the wealth and this Maya, and on the clever mind, when they rule you. The body and wealth are gifts; the trouble is being tied up by them. Is maa-i-aa ka-o darirh kar raakho — hold this Maya firmly in check, aap bachannee, through the Guru's teaching.

A Question to Sit With

What is something good that could take over your life if you let it?
