Verse 4 of 4

Serve the One Within

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਤਜੀ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
mithi-aa kar maa-i-aa tajee sukh sahj beechaar.
Maya is false and transitory; forsaking it, one obtains peaceful, celestial contemplation.
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੰਝਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੩॥੧੦॥
kahi kabeer sayvaa karahu man manjh muraar. ||3||10||
Says Kabir, serve Him within your mind; He is the Enemy of ego, the Destroyer of demons. ||3||10||

In plain words

Once you see that the world's glitter is passing, it loosens its grip, and a quiet, easy peace settles in on its own.

Kabir says, keep the One right there in your heart and serve the One from the inside. That is where the calm lives.

Let the passing glitter go, and an easy peace settles on its own.
The deeper layer

mithi-aa kar maa-i-aa tajee — seeing Maya as impermanent, one lets it go. sukh sahj beechaar — the peace of sahaj (natural ease). sayvaa karahu man manjh muraar — serve the One within the mind; muraar is the One who clears away ego. The inward turn completed.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you feel a quiet, settled kind of peace inside?
