There Is No Second

ਏਕਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਦੂਜਾ ॥
aykas bin naahee ko doojaa.
There is no other than the One Lord.
ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਹੀ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਪੂਜਾ ॥੨॥
tumH hee jaanhu apnee poojaa. ||2||
You alone know Your worship and adoration. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Apart from the One, there is no other.

You alone know how You are to be honored.

There is no second One hiding anywhere — everything that looks separate is the same One.
The deeper layer

There is only One, and only the One knows how to be honored.

Aykas bin naahee ko doojaa — apart from the One, there is no second. This is the bedrock of Ik Onkar, One Creator.

Tumh hee jaanhu apnee poojaa — You alone know Your own worship. Poojaa means worship, or honoring. Even the right way to honor the One rests with the One. That is a humble note. It keeps love for the One from turning into showing off. A gift given quietly often means more than one given for applause.

A Question to Sit With

If there is only one reality behind everything, does anything ever get left out of it?
