safal janam jeevan parvaan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
My birth has been rendered fruitful, and my life is approved. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Guru has cut away my sorrow and given me a gift.

My birth has borne fruit, and my life is welcomed.

A life turned toward what is real becomes a life that bears fruit.
The deeper layer

At the center, the Rahao. Gur dukh kaati-aa deeno daan — the Guru cuts the sorrow and gives the gift (daan — grace, freely given). Safal janam jeevan parvaan — the birth is fruitful, the life is accepted. A whole life made worthwhile.

A Question to Sit With

What makes a day feel like it counted?
