naanak jaachai saaDh ravaal. ||2||6||24||
Nanak begs for the dust of the feet of the Holy. ||2||6||24||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One is the Guru, showing the way, and the One is the caretaker, feeding and holding you.

Nanak says: I ask only for the dust at the feet of the holy people.

The One who shows you the way is also the One who takes care of you.
The deeper layer

The same One both guides us and takes care of us.

Aapay satgur aapay partipaal — the One is the True Guru who shows the way, and also the partipaal, the one who feeds us and looks after us. It is like a parent who helps with homework and also packs your lunch.

Naanak jaachai saaDh ravaal — Nanak asks for the dust from the feet of the holy. This is a picture of deep humility. It means: I only want to walk behind the Guru's people and let their goodness rub off on me. This humility is about wanting to learn.

A Question to Sit With
