Verse 3 of 3

Kept in Good Keeping

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਰਨਾਈ ॥
naanak gur pooray sarnaa-ee.
Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Perfect Guru,
ਜਿਨਿ ਅਪਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਈ ॥੨॥੮॥੨੬॥
jin apnay naam kee paij rakhaa-ee. ||2||8||26||
who has preserved the honor of His Name. ||2||8||26||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Nanak says: I have come to the shelter of the perfect Guru,

who keeps the honor of the Name, and keeps me safe and steady too.

In the right shelter, you are kept safe and so is what matters most.
The deeper layer

Naanak gur pooray sarnaa-ee — in the shelter of the perfect Guru; jin apnay naam kee paij rakhaa-ee — who keeps the honor of the Name. Paij (honor) is kept both for the divine and, by extension, for the one who shelters there.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you feel most safely kept?
