While standing up, sitting down and sleeping, think of the Lord, Har Har Har. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One, the One, the One — my love is for You.

Standing up, sitting down, falling asleep, remember the One.

You can keep the One close all day, like a quiet hum of love inside.
The deeper layer

Here is the Rahao, the "pause" at the center of the shabad. Har comes again and again, har har har, the Name of the One. Then comes hayt, which means love. So the repeating is soaked in love.

The second line says oothat baithat sovtay... chayt: standing up, sitting down, falling asleep, keep the One in mind. Think of the background music in a favorite game. It plays under everything you do. This is simran, loving remembrance. It is warm and alive, much more than just saying words.

A Question to Sit With

What is a good thought you could keep with you all day long?
