Nectar in the Sangat

gun gabheer gun naa-ikaa gun kahee-ahi kayt.
The Virtues of our Virtuous Lord and Master are so profound; how many of His Glorious Virtues should I speak?
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰੇਤ ॥੪॥੯॥੩੯॥
naanak paa-i-aa saaDhsang har har amrayt. ||4||9||39||
Nanak has obtained the Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord, Har, Har, in the Company of the Holy. ||4||9||39||

In plain words

The One's goodness runs so deep — how many of its wonders could I ever name?

Nanak says: in the Sangat I found the nectar of the One, sweeter than anything.

The sweetest thing, the nectar of the One, is found in the Sangat.
The deeper layer

The whole journey comes home here.

Gun gabheer gun naa-ikaa: the One's goodness runs so deep. Gun kahee-ahi kayt: how many good things could I ever list? Then naanak paa-i-aa saadhsang: in the Sangat, Nanak found it. Har har amrayt is amrit, sweet nectar, the taste of the One.

Think of the shabad as a journey. First we crossed the ocean in the boat. Then we kept the One in mind all day. Then we found steady calm. And at last, we taste the sweetness itself.

A Question to Sit With

What good thing have you tasted because of the people around you?
