The Day I Meet the Holy

ਜਾ ਦਿਨ ਭੇਟੇ ਸਾਧ ਮੋਹਿ ਉਆ ਦਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
jaa din bhaytay saaDh mohi u-aa din balihaaree.
That day, when I meet with the Holy - I am a sacrifice to that day.

tan man apno jee-araa fir fir ha-o vaaree. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Again and again, I sacrifice my body, mind and soul to them. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The day I meet the holy — I give myself to that day.

My body, my mind, my very soul — again and again, I offer them.

Some days are worth celebrating just for who you got to be with.
The deeper layer

The day you meet the holy is a day worth giving your whole heart to.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Jaa din bhaytay saadh mohi u-aa din balihaaree — the day I meet the holy, I would give myself for that day. Balihaaree means offering yourself out of love and thanks.

Tan man apno jee-araa fir fir ha-o vaaree — body, mind and soul, again and again, I offer. This is wholehearted love, not wiping yourself out. It is like counting down the days to see a favorite cousin, then giving that visit your whole heart.

A Question to Sit With

What is a day you would relive just because of the people in it?
