Sikhism·Raag Bilaaval·Shabad 59
Verse 3 of 5

Searching, and Finding the Name

ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਿਆ ਨਾਮੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੂਰੁ ॥
khojat khojat khoji-aa naamai bin koor.
Searching, searching, searching - without the Naam, everything is false.
ਜੀਵਨ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰੁ ॥੨॥
jeevan sukh sabh saaDhsang parabh mansaa poor. ||2||
All the comforts of life are found in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; God is the Fulfiller of desires. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Searching and searching, I searched everywhere — and without the Naam, all of it turned out to be a mirage.

Every comfort in life is found in the Sangat, where God fills the wishes of your heart.

A lot of what we chase is a mirage; the Naam is what lasts.
The deeper layer

Searching ends in finding. Khojat khojat khoji-aa naamai bin koor — searching and searching, I found that without the Naam, the Name, everything is hollow. Koor means false, like a mirage in the desert.

Think of chasing the newest toy or game, sure it will make you happy. Soon you want the next one.

Then: jeevan sukh sabh saadhsang — all the comforts of life are found in the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. Prabh mansaa poor — God fills the heart's true wishes.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever wanted something badly, then found it was not what you thought?
