This is Nanak's prayer, O God, I live by singing Your Glorious Praises. ||4||12||42||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I ask everything of You — every hope, every need. The very fortunate receive it.

Nanak says: this is my prayer, God — let me live by singing Your praises.

You can bring every hope and worry to the same kind place.
The deeper layer

Here comes a prayer. Sabh kichh tum tay maagnaa — I ask for everything from You. Vadbhaagee paa-ay — the very fortunate receive it, as a gift of grace.

Think of a child who brings every need, big or small, to a loving parent. Asking is itself a kind of trust.

Then Nanak says his ardaas, his humble prayer. Naanak kee ardaas prabh jeevaa gun gaa-ay — O God, let me live by singing Your praises. The shabad closes in prayer and song.

A Question to Sit With

If you could ask for anything good, what would you ask for?
