Tasting the subtle essence of the Lord, one is satisfied; receiving this essence, the mind becomes happy.

The intellect is brightened and illuminated; turning away from the world, the heart-lotus blossoms forth. ||2||

In plain words

Taste the sweetness of the One, and you feel deeply satisfied — a happy contentment spreads through you.

Your understanding brightens like a lamp being lit, and your heart opens up like a flower turning to face the sun.

When you turn toward the One, your heart opens like a flower to the sun.
The deeper layer

The heart opens like a flower. Har ras chaakhat dharaapi-aa — tasting the sweetness of the Lord, one is satisfied. Ras means taste, the sweet juice of something. Man ras lai hasnaa — the mind takes in that sweetness and smiles.

Then: budh pargaas pargat bha-ee — the understanding lights up. Ulat kamal bigsanaa — the lotus of the heart turns around and blooms. A lotus is a flower that opens on still water.

Think of a sunflower that turns to find the sun each morning. Here the heart turns inward, toward the One, and opens wide. It is an old and much-loved picture of waking up inside.

A Question to Sit With

What makes your understanding feel like a light switching on?
