With Every Breath, Remembered

ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਨਹ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਅਨ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਧਾਵਉ ॥
saas saas nah veesrai an kateh na Dhaava-o.
With each and every breath, I never forget the Lord; I never go to another.
ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੀਐ ਮਾਨੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਿਟਾਵਉ ॥੩॥
safal darsan gur bhaytee-ai maan moh mitaava-o. ||3||
Obtaining the Fruitful Vision of the Guru's Darshan, I discard my pride and attachment. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

With every single breath, I keep the One close — I do not drift off looking for anything else.

One fruitful glimpse of the Guru, and my pride and my clinging melt away. There is nothing else I need.

Keeping something good close with every breath leaves no room for clinging.
The deeper layer

Remember the One with every breath.

Saas saas nah veesrai — with each breath, I do not forget. An kateh na Dhaava-o — I do not run off anywhere else. Think of how you always know where home is, even when you are out playing. The thought stays with you quietly.

Safal darsan gur bhaytee-ai — meeting the Guru, that darsan, or glimpse, bears fruit. Maan moh mitaava-o — pride and clinging are wiped away. This steady remembering is where calm and ease come from.

A Question to Sit With

What good thing would you like to remember with every breath?
