My spiritual marriage is fruitful, O Nanak; I am pleasing to my God. ||4||15||45||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I make truth, contentment, kindness and doing what is right into my jewelry.

Nanak says: a heart dressed like that is blessed and beautiful, and it pleases the One it loves.

The most beautiful things to wear are truth, kindness, and doing what is right.
The deeper layer

The best clothes are good qualities.

Sat santokh da-i-aa Dharam seegaar banaava-o — I make truth, contentment, kindness and Dharam, right living, into my jewelry. Think of getting ready for a big day. Instead of a new outfit, you put on honesty, patience and kindness. They never go out of style.

Then comes the picture of a suhaagan, a happy bride. In Gurbani, every soul is the bride and the One is the Beloved, so the picture fits anyone, young or old. Apunay parabh bhaava-o — a heart dressed in these qualities pleases the One it loves.

A Question to Sit With

If good qualities were clothes, which ones would you want to wear?
