Verse 4 of 5

Peace Comes With the Flow

ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਜੋ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਾਈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
karanhaar jo kar rahi-aa saa-ee vadi-aa-ee.
Whatever the Creator Lord does is glorious and great.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਖਸਮ ਰਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
gur poorai updaysi-aa sukh khasam rajaa-ee. ||3||
The Perfect Guru has instructed me, that peace comes by the Will of our Lord and Master. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whatever the One is doing in the world is good and great, even when you cannot see the whole picture.

The perfect Guru taught me that peace comes from living in the Master's Will.

Peace comes from flowing with life, not fighting it.
The deeper layer

Peace comes from trusting how life flows. Karanhaar jo kar rahi-aa saa-ee vadi-aa-ee — whatever the Creator does is great and good.

Then: gur poorai updaysi-aa sukh khasam rajaa-ee — the Perfect Guru taught me that peace comes from the Master's Will. In Sikh teaching this Will is called Hukam. It is the way all of life moves by the One's order.

Think of floating on your back down a gentle river. Fighting the current wears you out. Going with it, you drift safely to the bank. Peace comes from living with the current, not against it.

A Question to Sit With

When has fighting against something only made it harder — and what happened when you stopped?
