This is Nanak's prayer to God, that he may merge in the Lord's Sanctuary. ||4||21||51||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Standing up and sitting down, I say the Naam. This is the work I do.

Nanak says: this is my prayer to God, that I may rest fully in the One's shelter.

A good practice fits into the smallest moments of an ordinary day.
The deeper layer

Sitting or standing, the Naam can stay close all day long.

Oothat baithat japa-o naam — standing up and sitting down, I repeat the Name. Ih karam kamaava-o — this is the work I do.

Remembering the One is woven into ordinary moments. Think of how you hum a tune while tying your shoes or waiting for the bus. It fits into everything.

The shabad closes with a prayer: har saran samaava-o — may I rest fully in the One's saran, shelter. Like a child falling asleep safe in a parent's arms.

A Question to Sit With

What good habit could you tuck into the little moments of your day?
