In plain words

The perfect Guru showed me mercy and cut away my pain and sickness.

My mind and body are cool and at peace, keeping in mind the One most worth remembering.

The right thing to rest your mind on can cool your whole body.
The deeper layer

The Guru's kindness takes pain away and leaves mind and body cool.

This is the pause line, the Rahao, the center of the shabad. Gur poorai kirpaa karee kaati-aa dukh rog means the perfect Guru showed mercy and cut away pain and illness. Rog means sickness. When you are sick in bed and someone who loves you sits beside you, the fear gets smaller.

Man tan seetal sukhee bha-i-aa means mind and body became cool and at peace. Seetal means cool and calm, like a cool cloth on a hot forehead. Parabh Dhi-aavan jog means God is the One truly worth keeping in mind. This pause is where the shabad's healing note rings out most clearly.

A Question to Sit With

What helps your body and mind feel cool and settled?
