Centered All the Way In

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪੀਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥
har har har har jaapee-ai antar liv laa-ee.
I chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, Har, lovingly centering my inner being on Him.
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਸੁਧੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੩॥
kilvikh utreh suDh ho-ay saaDhoo sarnaa-ee. ||3||
Sinful mistakes are erased and I am sanctified, in the Sanctuary of the Holy Saints. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I keep the One in mind, over and over, letting my attention rest all the way inside.

The old mistakes wash clean and I feel made new, safe in the shelter of the Guru's people.

Turn your attention all the way in, and things start to clear.
The deeper layer

Let your attention rest all the way inside.

Har har har har jaapee-ai antar liv laa-ee means repeat the Lord's Name, Har, Har, with your inner self tuned to Him. Liv means loving attention, like a phone locked onto a strong WiFi signal. The repeating here is not a chore. It makes things clear, the way wiping a foggy mirror lets you see again.

Kilvikh utreh suDh ho-ay saaDhoo sarnaa-ee means mistakes wash off and you are made clean, in the shelter of the holy. Kilvikh means wrongdoings. Sarnaa-ee means shelter. You feel made new, safe among the Guru's people.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you feel clean and new after a mistake?
