I have awakened from sleep, chanting the Name of the Lord; gazing upon Him, I am filled with wonder.

Drinking in the Ambrosial Nectar, I am satisfied. How wondrous is its taste! ||2||

In plain words

I woke up from a kind of sleep by keeping the One in mind, and what I saw filled me with wonder.

I drank the sweet nectar and felt full and satisfied — and oh, what an amazing taste.

Waking up to wonder can feel better than anything you were chasing asleep.
The deeper layer

Remembering the One wakes you up into wonder.

Sovat har jap jaagi-aa: remembering the One, I woke up from sleep. This is not bedtime sleep. It is the sleepy, half-paying-attention way we can live. Paykhi-aa bismaad: I looked, and was filled with wonder. Bismaad is that "wow" feeling, close kin to the awe in the word Waheguru. Think of seeing snow for the very first time.

Then pee amrit tariptaasi-aa: drinking the amrit, the sweet nectar, I felt full. Taa kaa achraj su-aad: what an amazing taste it has!

A Question to Sit With

When did something ordinary suddenly fill you with wonder?
