The One Who Reunites the Separated

ਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਉਸਨ ਸੀਤ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੈ ਘਾਮ ਤੇ ਕਾਢੈ ॥
ray paraanee usan seet kartaa karai ghaam tay kaadhai.
O mortal, the Creator Lord made summer and winter; He saves you from the heat.
ਕੀਰੀ ਤੇ ਹਸਤੀ ਕਰੈ ਟੂਟਾ ਲੇ ਗਾਢੈ ॥੨॥
keeree tay hastee karai tootaa lay gaadhai. ||2||
From the ant, He makes an elephant; He reunites those who have been separated. ||2||

In plain words

The Maker made summer and winter and shelters you from the burning heat.

The One can raise the smallest ant into a mighty elephant, and bring back together those who were separated.

The One who tends the seasons can also lift the smallest and reunite the parted.
The deeper layer

The Maker cares for big things and small.

Usan seet kartaa karai: the Maker makes the heat and the cold. Ghaam tay kaadhai: and pulls you out of the burning heat. Then keeree tay hastee karai: the One can turn an ant into an elephant. The small can be made great.

Last comes a tender comfort: tootaa lay gaadhai. The One joins back what was broken apart. Think of old friends who drifted apart and then hug at a reunion. The One brings people back together.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone you were apart from and were so glad to be back with?
