moh magan koop anDh tay naanak gur kaadh. ||4||30||60||
Guru Nanak pulled me up, out of the deep, dark pit, the intoxication of attachment. ||4||30||60||

In plain words

On my own I can do nothing — so I come to the shelter of God and the Guru's people.

Nanak says: when I was lost in the fog of clinging, deep and dim, the Guru reached in and lifted me out.

When you feel lost in the fog, help can reach in and lift you out.
The deeper layer

When you are lost, a hand reaches in and lifts you out.

Ham tay kachhoo na hovnaa: on my own, I cannot do much. Saran parabh saadh: so I come to the shelter of the One and of the Guru's people.

Then moh magan koop andh tay. Moh means clinging, holding on too tight. The verse calls it a deep, dark pit, where we get dizzy from clinging. Think of being lost in thick fog, unable to see your own feet. Naanak gur kaadh: the Guru reached in and pulled me out. The shabad ends with being lifted.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt lost, and something or someone helped you find your way?
