Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The perfect Guru has blessed me with peace, calm, every blessing and joy.

All living beings have turned kind, as I come to know the Naam of the One.

An inward peace can soften the whole world around you.
The deeper layer

The Guru brings peace, and the world seems to turn gentle.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the shabad.

Sookh sahj kali-aan ras — peace, calm, well-being, and joy. Poorai gur keen — the perfect Guru gives these. Sahj is a calm that comes on its own.

Jee-a sagal da-i-aal bha-ay — all living beings become kind. Har har naam cheen — as one keeps the Name in mind. The Name is the One's presence, held in the heart.

Think of walking into class in a good mood. Somehow everyone seems friendlier that day. When the Name fills the heart, you meet the world gently. And it tends to meet you gently back.

A Question to Sit With

Have you noticed the world feel gentler when you feel calm inside?
