Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Living in the Sangat, among the Guru's people, you find peace, calm and rest.

Blessed is that moment when you remember the Naam of the One.

The best moment of a day is the one you spend remembering.
The deeper layer

The finest moment of any day is the one spent remembering the Naam.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the shabad.

Saadh janaa kai sang basat: living in the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. Sukh sahj bisraam: brings peace, calm and rest. Sahj means a settled, easy calm. Think of how you relax around the friends who never make fun of you.

Then saa-ee gharhee sulakh-nee: blessed is that moment. Simrat har naam: the moment you hold the Name in mind. Out of all the day's moments, that one is the finest.

A Question to Sit With

When is your favorite quiet moment of the day?
