taj sabh bharam bhaji-o paarbarahm.
Renounce all your doubts, and vibrate upon the Supreme Lord God.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਟਲ ਇਹੁ ਧਰਮੁ ॥੪॥੮੦॥੧੪੯॥
kaho naanak atal ih Dharam. ||4||80||149||
Says Nanak, this path of Dharma is eternal and unchanging. ||4||80||149||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Let go of every doubt and turn joyfully toward the One who holds it all. This way of living is steady and unchanging — a ground that never moves beneath you.

Turning toward the One is the one ground that never moves beneath you.
The deeper layer

Let go of doubt and turn to the One. That way of living never wobbles.

This is the closing line, where Guru Arjan signs with the name Nanak. Taj sabh bharam — let go of every doubt. Bharam is the fog of doubt and confusion. Bhaji-o paarbarahm — turn toward the Supreme One who fills everything.

Then the shabad names this way atal ih Dharam. Dharam means the true way of living. Atal means steady and unshakeable. Almost everything else we lean on can wobble, like a chair with one short leg. This way stays put, whatever happens around it. It is solid ground under your feet.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing in your life that stays steady no matter what else changes?
