Gently Speaking the Name Restores Your Wholeness

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਤ ਰਸਨ ਬਖਾਨ ॥
raam naam nit rasan bakhaan.
With your tongue, continually chant the Lord's Name.

Disease shall depart, and you shall be saved. ||1||

In plain words

Let my tongue keep speaking the Name of the One, gently and often, through the day.

As it does, the things that troubled me ease, and a wholeness and well-being settle in.

The shabad offers a gentle, steady speaking of the Name as comfort for what troubles you, and a quiet wholeness.
The deeper layer

Raam naam nit rasan bakhaan — "with the tongue, continually speak the Lord's Name." This is naam simran on the lips: a gentle, repeated turning of attention, framed always positively (see the guidelines — never frame recitation negatively). The fruit is binsay rog bha-ay kali-aan — "afflictions ease, and well-being comes." Kali-aan is wholeness, welfare, being made well. The register here is devotional rather than medical: what is offered is not a treatment but a steady, loving repetition that settles the heart, a comfort to lean on alongside whatever care is needed.

A Question to Sit With

Is there a calming word or phrase you can return to, again and again, when your mind is restless?
