A Clear Heart Shines Right Out of the Face

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਚਾਕਰ ਸੇ ਭਲੇ ॥
parabh kay chaakar say bhalay.
The slaves of God are good.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲੇ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੪੧॥
naanak tin mukh oojlay. ||4||3||141||
O Nanak, their faces are radiant. ||4||3||141||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Those who serve the Oneness with a whole heart are good company indeed. Something shines out of them — their faces are bright and open, the way a face looks when there is nothing to hide and nothing to fear.

A clear heart shines right out of an open face.
The deeper layer

This one says that a clear heart shows on the face.

Parabh kay chaakar say bhalay — those who serve the One are good. Here chaakar, servant, is a badge of honor, not a lowly word.

Naanak tin mukh oojlay — their faces are oojlay, bright and shining. Gurbani often uses a bright face as a sign of a clear life inside. When nothing inside is hiding and nothing is afraid, it shows.

Think of how your face looks when you have told the truth and have nothing to worry about. A bright face is like the weather report of a calm heart.

A Question to Sit With

Whose face lights up in a way that makes you feel safe — and what do you think is behind it?
