Real Contentment Is a Treasure That Never Runs Out

ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਇ ਰਹੇ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਡੋਲਨ ਤੇ ਅਬ ਚੂਕੇ ॥
taripat aghaa-ay rahay rid antar dolan tay ab chookay.
Satisfied and satiated, I remain steady within my heart, and now, I do not waver at all.
ਅਖੁਟੁ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਤੋਟਿ ਨਹੀ ਰੇ ਮੂਕੇ ॥੨॥
akhut khajaanaa satgur dee-aa tot nahee ray mookay. ||2||
The True Guru has given me the inexhaustible treasure; it never decreases, and never runs out. ||2||

In plain words

I am satisfied and full, steady deep inside my heart, and I no longer waver back and forth. The teaching gave me a treasure that can never be used up — it never shrinks, and it never runs out.

Real contentment is a treasure that never runs out, no matter how much you use it.
The deeper layer

Real contentment is a treasure that never runs out.

Taripat aghaa-ay — satisfied and full. This is the opposite of trisnaa, the endless craving. It is a fullness that finally stops the dolan, the wobbling back and forth of a restless heart.

Then comes the akhut khajaanaa, the treasure that never runs out. This is how Gurbani speaks of the Name. Money shrinks as you spend it. This treasure grows the more you draw from it. It is like a candle that lights other candles and loses none of its own flame.

Contentment here does not mean putting up with having little. It means discovering you have plenty.

A Question to Sit With

What is a good thing in your life that grows, rather than shrinks, the more you share it?
