Sikhism·Raag Gauree·Shabad 7
Verse 4 of 5

Die Into the Teaching Once and Never Fear Death

sabad marai fir maran na ho-ay.
One who dies in the Word of the Shabad, shall never again have to die.
bin moo-ay ki-o pooraa ho-ay.
Without such a death, how can one attain perfection?
parpanch vi-aap rahi-aa man do-ay.
The mind is engrossed in deception, treachery and duality.
thir naaraa-in karay so ho-ay. ||3||
Whatever the Immortal Lord does, comes to pass. ||3||

In plain words

Whoever dies into the teaching never has to die again. Without that letting-go, how could anyone become whole? A mind full of tricks, betrayal, and double-mindedness stays stuck. And whatever the deathless One does is what actually happens.

Die into the teaching once, and you never have to fear dying again.
The deeper layer

Dying while alive again: dying in the Shabad -- the ego dissolving into the Word -- ends the cycle of dying. Without this death there is no perfection, no crossing. The obstacle is duality, double-mindedness, the sense of a separate self managing its schemes. Set against it: the Immortal One whose doing is what comes to pass -- Hukam again.

A Question to Sit With

What would it mean to "let go" of something so completely you never had to fear losing it?
