You are my darling, my dearest one; You are the very breath in me.
You are the one I look up to, my guide and my strength.
The One you love most can be as close as your own breath.
The rahao: toon mayray laalan toon mayray praan — You are my darling, my very breath (praan = life-breath); toon mayray saahib toon mayray khaan — You are my master, my leader. The pairing of tenderness (laalan, darling) with strength (saahib, khaan) captures the whole feeling: the Beloved is both the softest intimacy and the firmest support. "Breath of life" makes the closeness total — nearer than anything external.
A Question to Sit With
What is something so close to you that you'd stop being yourself without it?
