Verse 2 of 5

Peace Fills the Emptied Space With the Good

ਤਉ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰੀਆ ॥
ta-o mai har har karee-aa.
Then, I repeated the Name of the Lord, Har, Har,
ਤਉ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਰੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ta-o sukh sehjaree-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and I obtained celestial peace. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Then I said the One's Name over and over,

and a deep, settled peace came to me.

Peace isn't just the absence of what poisons you — it's filling the emptied space with the presence of the good.
The deeper layer

Peace means filling the empty space with good. This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.

ta-o mai har har karee-aa — then I said the One's Name again and again. ta-o sukh sehjaree-aa — and a deep, settled peace came.

This finishes the shaking-off from the last verse. Step away from what harms you, then fill the space with the Name. Peace is not only the snakes being gone. It is the One being present. Think of cleaning out your closet, then hanging up your favorite clothes. Empty the room of poison, and fill it with peace.

A Question to Sit With

After removing something harmful, what good would you want to fill the space with?
