A Heart Scattered Among Many Clingings Gets Sucked Down

ਮਿਥਨ ਮੋਹਰੀਆ ॥ ਅਨ ਕਉ ਮੇਰੀਆ ॥
mithan mohree-aa. an ka-o mayree-aa.
False is the love of the many emotional attachments,
ਵਿਚਿ ਘੂਮਨ ਘਿਰੀਆ ॥੨॥

which suck the mortal into the whirlpool of reincarnation. ||2||

In plain words

The love of the many attachments is false,

and it pulls a person into the whirlpool of circling.

A heart scattered among many clingings gets sucked into a whirlpool — single-heartedness is what steadies it.
The deeper layer

A heart pulled in many directions gets sucked into a whirlpool.

mithan mohree-aa — the love of many attachments is false. Attachments are the things and people we cling to. Here there are many of them, scattered. vich ghooman ghiree-aa — they pull a person into a whirlpool. It is the whirlpool of being born again and again.

Think of trying to hold ten balloons in a strong wind. They drag you all over. The cure, hinted at here, is one whole heart. Bring the scattered clingings back to one true love, and the whirlpool loses its pull.

A Question to Sit With

Where is your heart scattered among many attachments? What would gathering it toward one steadier love do?
