In plain words

You who face the teaching, my friends and companions — give me the gift of the One's name, the life inside my life.

I would gladly be the servant of the servants — of the students who hold the One in mind through day and night.

Real devotion keeps climbing down — happy to serve even the servants of what it loves.
The deeper layer

The shabad opens with Ram Das asking his companions for the Name as one asks friends for the most precious thing, and calling it "the life of my very life" — deeper than mere living. Then the astonishing humility: "I am the slave, the servant of the Guru's Sikhs." Not the master of students but the servant of servants — devotion that keeps climbing down. This is the block's keynote humility taken one step further: reverence not only for the One but for everyone who loves the One.

A Question to Sit With

Is there someone whose love for a good thing you admire so much you'd gladly help *them*?
