Verse 3 of 5

Even the Right Meeting Is Gift, Not Engineering

jaa har parabh bhaavai taa gurmukh maylay jinH vachan guroo satgur man bhaa-i-aa.
When it pleases the Lord God, he causes us to meet the Gurmukhs; the Hymns of the Guru, the True Guru, are very sweet to their minds.
vadbhaagee gur kay sikh pi-aaray har nirbaanee nirbaan pad paa-i-aa. ||2||
Very fortunate are the beloved Sikhs of the Guru; through the Lord, they attain the supreme state of Nirvaanaa. ||2||

In plain words

When it pleases the One, we're brought to meet those who face the teaching, and their hymns turn sweet to us.

Very lucky are the beloved students of the teaching — through the One they reach the highest, quietest peace.

Even meeting the right people at the right time is more gift than engineering — and the sign it landed is sweetness.
The deeper layer

The verse credits even the meeting to grace — "when it pleases the Lord" — so that finding good companions is not our engineering but a gift. And it promises the Gurmukhs "the supreme state of Nirvaanaa" — here not a cold extinction but the deepest peace, the fire of restless wanting finally gone out. The hymns "turn sweet" once the heart is ready; sweetness is a sign the meeting has landed. Fortune, again, is inner and given.

A Question to Sit With

When did the right person or teaching arrive in your life at just the right time, as if by grace?
