So Full of One Good Thing That Everything Feels Rich

ਗੂਜਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Goojaree, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਜਾਪ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਤਾਪ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥

The wealth of the Lord is my chanting, the wealth of the Lord is my deep meditation; the wealth of the Lord is the food I enjoy.

I do not forget the Lord, Har, Har, from my mind, even for an instant; I have found Him in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||

In plain words

The One's wealth is my singing, the One's wealth is my deep quiet, the One's wealth is the food I live on.

I don't let the One slip from my mind for even a breath — I found this wealth in the company of good people.

Imagine being so full of one good thing that your singing, your quiet, and your very meals all feel like riches.
The deeper layer

This whole shabad sings about one happy kind of wealth. har Dhan means "the wealth of the Lord." It repeats like someone gladly patting a full pocket.

Everything becomes that one wealth. har Dhan jaap — singing the Name is my wealth. It is my deep quiet too. har Dhan bhojan bhaa-i-aa — it is even the food I enjoy. The speaker sounds like someone who just came home rich.

And the place it was found is named plainly. saaDhsangat meh paa-i-aa — found in the Saadh Sangat, the company of good and holy people. This treasure is found with others, not dug up alone. Joy, not duty, runs the whole song.

A Question to Sit With

What is something so good in your life that everything else starts to feel like a form of it?
