The Glitter That Rules the World Serves the Rememberer

ਜੀਤਿ ਜੀਤਿ ਜੀਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਥਾਨਾ ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਲਪਟਹੀ ॥
jeet jeet jeetay sabh thaanaa sagal bhavan laptahee.
Conquering and conquering, she has conquered everywhere, and she clings to the whole world.

Says Nanak, she surrenders to the Holy Saint; becoming his servant, she falls at his feet. ||2||5||14||

In plain words

Conquering everywhere she goes, the glitter has the whole world in her grip.

But Nanak says: before the Holy she gives herself up — becomes their servant and falls at their feet.

The glitter that rules the whole world becomes a servant to the one who simply remembers the One.
The deeper layer

The close delivers the raag's great reversal. Maya, who "conquered everywhere" and clings to "the whole world," meets one figure she cannot rule: "the Holy Saint." Before the one who lives in the One, "she surrenders... becoming his servant, she falls at his feet." The all-conquering illusion becomes a servant to the truly devoted. The glitter still dazzles everyone caught in forgetting — but the one who remembers turns the tables: what enslaves the world waits on them. Remembrance is the one power Maya bows to.

A Question to Sit With

What loses its grip on you the moment you're grounded in what actually matters?
