Love the Fearless and You've Moved Out of Fear's Country

ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਦੂਤੁ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਸੰਤਾਈ ॥
gur sarnaa-ee johi na saakai doot na sakai santaa-ee.
In the Guru's Sanctuary, the Messenger of Death cannot see the mortal, or torture him.
ਅਵਿਗਤ ਨਾਥ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੪॥
avigat naath niranjan raatay nirbha-o si-o liv laa-ee. ||4||
I am imbued with the Imperishable and Immaculate Lord Master, and lovingly attached to the Fearless Lord. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In the teaching's shelter, death cannot even find the person to trouble them.

I am dyed in the imperishable, spotless Master, in love with the Fearless One.

To be in love with the Fearless One is to have moved house — out of the country where fear rules, into the home it can't reach.
The deeper layer

The verse turns the predicament of P3 into refuge: "in the Guru's Sanctuary, the Messenger of Death cannot see the mortal." The one hidden in the teaching is invisible to the fear that hunts everyone. And the speaker names where he now lives — "imbued with the Imperishable... lovingly attached to the Fearless Lord." To be dyed in the imperishable and in love with the Fearless is to have moved house, out of the country where death rules and into the home of the One it cannot touch.

A Question to Sit With

What 'home' could you move your attention into, where your biggest fear has no jurisdiction?
