Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Someone dances night and day and sends away the glitter's pull.
They enter a home where no one sleeps.
The world sleeps in the glitter. It dances and jumps and sings, feeling cut off from the One.
The self-centered mind has no real devotion.
Not every kind of dancing is love for the One.
This verse draws a line between two dances. It uses two names from old Indian stories as pictures. Saktee, Shakti, stands for maya, the pull of the world's glitter. Siv, Shiva, stands for the One's home. The point is not about any faith. The names are simply pictures here.
The true dancer dances day and night and sends away the glitter's pull. Siv ghar need na ho-ee — in that home there is no sleep. It means being fully awake.
The other dance is the world's. It is asleep in the glitter. It dances, jumps and sings, but it feels cut off from the One. That is a lot of motion and noise, yet it is a kind of sleepwalking. Think of scrolling for hours, with busy thumbs and a sleepy heart. Manmukh bhagat na ho-ee — the self-centered person has no real devotion. Not all dancing is devotion. The test is whether love or glitter is moving your feet.
What in your life looks like joyful activity but is really restless sleepwalking? What would 'waking' look like?
