In plain words

Hopes and desires die only when the One who made them takes them away.

Nanak says: nothing lasts, except the Name of the One.

You can't switch off restless desire by willpower — it quiets only when handed back to its source; and only the One stays.
The deeper layer

The companion Shalok completes the thought: our restless "hopes and desires" are finally stilled only by the One "who created them" — we cannot switch them off by willpower, but they quiet when handed back to their source. And the bedrock conclusion: "nothing is permanent, except the Name of the Lord." Everything we hoped in passes; only the One stays. Rest your hope there, and it will not outlive you unsatisfied.

A Question to Sit With

What restless wanting might finally rest if you handed it back rather than fighting it?
