Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The One itself made the world, with perfect craft.
It is itself the banker, itself the merchant, itself the store. It is itself the ocean, itself the boat, itself the boatman. It is itself the teacher, itself the student, itself the one who shows the way. Nanak says: hold the Name, and every wrong is washed away.
The Vaar closes on a magnificent non-dual sweep: the One is "the banker, the merchant, the store... the ocean, the boat, the boatman... the Guru, the disciple." Every role in every drama — commerce, crossing, teaching — is played by the one Reality. There is no second actor anywhere. This is Ik Onkar as the whole cast of the play, and the final counsel is simple: hold the Name, and all is washed clean. The Vaar ends, fittingly, with "Sudh" — pure, complete.
If one Reality is playing every part, including yours, how does that change how you see your own role?
