O Nanak, worshipping the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mortal encounters no misfortune. ||2||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Think on the One, you fortunate ones — it fills the water, the land, and the sky.
Nanak says: worshipping the Name, no misfortune meets you.
When the ground of your life fills water, land, and sky, misfortune has nowhere to sweep you off to.
A short Shalok of the One's omnipresence — "pervading in the water, the land and the sky" — and its protective effect: "no misfortune shall strike you." This is not a promise that hardship never comes, but that the one anchored in the all-pervading One is not finally undone by it. When the ground of your life fills water, land, and sky, misfortune has no place to sweep you off to.
A Question to Sit With
What would change if you truly sensed the good was present everywhere — water, land, and sky?
