The World Isn't an Illusion to Despise but a Cherished Making
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
From the beginning and through all the ages, You have kept and protected us.
True is Your Name, Creator, and true is Your creation. You lack nothing; You fill every heart. You are merciful and all-powerful; You Yourself set us to serve You. Those in whose minds You live are forever at peace. Having made the creation, You Yourself cherish it. You Yourself are everything, endless One. Nanak seeks the shelter of the perfect teaching.
The nineteenth Pauree affirms a long faithfulness — "from the beginning, and through the ages, You have been our Protector." Trust rests on a track record spanning all time. And it affirms the goodness of creation: "True is Your Creation" — the world is not an illusion to be despised but the true making of a true One, who "cherishes" what it made. This grounds the raag's householder path: a real world, made and loved by the One, is a fit place to live and serve.
How would you treat the ordinary world differently if you saw it as something truly made and cherished?
